About

Miguel’s Mexican Restaurant

Many of us have a story about learning to cook from a family member, often a parent or grandparent. For Angela Gonzales, being part of a family of restaurant owners, cooking was ingrained early.
She spent much of her childhood in her parents’ restaurant, often in the office watching TV on a mattress. Angela’s daily routine included getting off the school bus in front of the family restaurant.

Generational Legacy of Flavor

Her parents, Robert Gonzales and Ann Jernigan, continued the family tradition started by Robert’s parents, Ruben and Delores (Lola) Gonzales. Angela’s grandparents opened their first restaurant in 1968, followed by Robert, who opened Miguel’s Mexican Restaurant in 1985 in Tilden, Texas, a town even smaller than Jay, FL. The residents of Tilden not only loved the food but also the friendships they formed with the restaurant owners.

Tradition with Heart

Today, Angela carries on the family legacy, using recipes passed down through three generations. At Miguel’s Mexican Restaurant, customers can savor the same recipes made fresh daily, from homemade salsa and chips to their famous puff tacos. What sets Miguel’s apart is the personal touch—many customers are greeted by name, a testament to the longstanding relationships formed over meals. Angela and her family consider these customers friends, having watched their families grow over the years.
